Understanding the Complexity of Language
Language is a complex and vital part of our lives. At The Therapy Path, we believe in educating our clients about language impairments and natural practice strategies. Often, unseen deficits could interfere with a person's daily interactions and community connections.
Several of our clinicians have more than thirty years of experience working with a variety of populations in almost all agency settings. We have developed policy manuals, case management strategies, and intervention models that manage large caseloads. Our approach has evolved to maximize available resources and to achieve the best outcomes for clients. We are also available to help develop and streamline agency procedures.

Our Reading Program
First Step to Literacy
First Step to Literacy is a therapy program aimed at teaching "non-readers" fundamental reading skills, designed by a Speech-Language Pathologist with expertise in helping children over six years old who face communication delays. The program focuses on children with language or articulation difficulties, learning disabilities, hearing impairments, or attention challenges, limiting groups to four children for personalized attention.

Importance of Reading
Reading is crucial for acquiring knowledge essential for various life aspects, from careers to decision-making. Fundamental reading skills include print awareness, phonological awareness, sound-symbol association, visual scanning, blending, whole-word recognition, and comprehension.
Teaching Methods
The program employs engaging, hands-on exercises and vivid materials to heighten attention. It emphasizes verbal participation and feedback to guide efforts and uses meaningful associations, such as connecting letters to memorable symbols alongside fun drills and stories.

Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is encouraged. Home exercises and detailed progress reports ensure reinforcement and targeted focus on challenging areas.
Eligibility and Registration
Eligible participants are children above six with language skills at or above the 5th percentile, assessed through formal testing and a parent questionnaire. To register, families can submit the questionnaire to The Therapy Path in Timmins, Ontario.
